me pretending I’m famous

I don’t like talking about my books. When people ask me about them, I always get very vague and evasive, and change the subject as soon I’m able.

I don’t know why I’m so uncomfortable. I love my books. I think they’re good and funny and enjoyable. And I can talk endlessly about any other topic in pop culture. I could spend 2 hours explaining ad nauseum why Keiran Culkin is the best Culkin. (And he is, but all the Culkins are good. All of them.)

What is it about talking about something I’ve done that makes me so awkward?

I can talk about myself in relation to celebrities. I was once in a music video (truth). For a few months, I regularly exchanged messages via the internet with Craig Fairbaugh of (+44) and Transplants fame (he is very nice.) Debra Jo Rupp once made a joke at my expense. And I stared blankly at Michael Ian Black.

Oh, and the other day I got recognized. In real life. A lady stopped me and said, “Hey, you’re the girl that writes those vampire books aren’t you?” And I said, “Yes, yes, I am” and awkwardly detangled myself from the conversation.

I am not smooth, and I don’t know what to say about myself.

Anyway – the point of this is that if you’re eloquent and can say things about my books, I’d enjoy it a lot if you did, but only if you want to. Because I’m not any good at pretending to be famous.

Look, here’s the video I was in! Me and my friend Valerie were actaully asked to participate in the testimonials, where the wind chill was about 30 below, but ours didn’t make the cut. 🙁

See, I’m famous! (That is sarcasm, by the way.) We got to talk to Terry and Kelly most of the time. That was fun.

Addendum: I’ve also met Darth Vader. I can’t find my picture with him (cause that’s how life is), but here’s a pic of my friend Petey with him (I’m the one taking the picture.)

May flowers bring June allergies

May was a tremendous month for me, and I want to share the love. But I don’t know how yet.

I’ll devise a plan, I’m sure.

With Flutter out, I’m looking ahead to Wisdom. And I’ve been thinking about the cover. I don’t know what I’m going to do.

Every book I’ve written has a color scheme when I’m writing. (In My Blood Approves, the color of blue is mentioned frequently – Jack’s eyes, his bedroom, Alice’s clothes, etc. In Fate, purple is strung through out, most noticiably in the character Violet.)

But for Wisdom, I don’t know what the color is. I suppose I have time to figure this all out.

Also, I’m going to be participating in an event on Book Rat’s blog. It’s Jane in June (as in Jane Austen), and she has a lot of really great giveaways and blogs going on all month. You can also link up any reviews or any Jane related activities you have going on too.

If you’re a Jane Austen fan, or just like good things, you should definitely check it out this month.

I’ve also decided that I’m going to give away an autographed copy of My Blood Approves after I sell my 1,000 book. It should be happening kinda soon (sooner if you tell all your friends how much you love the books *wink wink nudge nudge*) so check back often.

I’ll get the details on the Fefe Dobson giveaway also, but I think that’s happening June 15th.

Early Launch – Flutter is OUT!!!!!

Amazon, in its infinite trickery, has published my book today! So yes, its more than a day early, but let’s get this launch party going!

I posted the first chapter and links to buy Flutter under the My Books tab, but they’re also right here: Kindle and paperback. (Amazon eventually links them together, but it takes like a month or so.)

The giveaway is still going until midnight on Friday the 28th, so enter while you have a chance!!! I’ll most likely be doing the drawing somewhere around one or two in the morning, because that is how I roll.
I can’t edit the product description yet or add any real info yet, but you can find all that on the My Books tab if you’re not already familiar.
Anyway – if you’re one of the people that have already bought it, I’d enjoy it you left a review – be it positive, negative, whatever, as long as its honest. If you hate Flutter or any of my books, don’t be afraid to tell me so.

And if you like my books, please tell everyone! It’s hard to get the word out about them without a real marketing department, but word-of-mouth can really, really do a lot. That’s how I found out about Greyson Chance, after all.

(Cause the song is so insanely awesome, I’m posting it again: )

I’m supposed to be cleaning my office, but these recent developments have gotten me sidetracked.

So that’s what my office looks like. (If you look closely, you can see copies of Slaughterhouse-Five, Glamorama, The Killing Joke, Shadow Kiss, Crime and Punishment, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and what’s that? A battered copy of the first print of My Blood Approves.)

so… what’s next?

It’s less than 48 hours to enter the giveaway. So if you want three free books or a couple sexy pins, you should enter while you still can.

So, the page for Flutter is live on Amazon, but it’s unavailable until Saturday. (Or at least that’s my understanding of the process).

But as this contest draws to a close, I find myself wondering, what’s next?

Well, lots of things actually. I have some interviews, reviews, and giveaways lined up on other blogs (more info will come as it gets closer.)

I’m going to be doing a giveaway for Richelle Mead’s epically awesome Spirit Bound because I magically have an extra copy. This will happen sometime late June, but I haven’t set a date yet.

Also, my assistant will be having a giveaway for Fefe Dobson’s latest CD and a copy of Inside the Mind of Gideon Rayburn in mid-June (exact date to come later).

In July, it’s my birthday, and since ebooks have been so, so good to me, I’m going to have a giveaway for a bunch of ecopies of all three of my books.

In August, I have the release in the fourth book in the series, Wisdom, and a book signing on August 28th. (Egads!)

By the end of the year, I plan on releasing at least one more book in a different series (possibly two, if I can push it). So far, by the looks of it, it’s going to be Honalee, but you can vote in the poll if you want to see something different.

So while Flutter may be coming out this Saturday, I still have a busy summer ahead of me.

And once again, I want to thank everyone for their support in this. You’ve all been amazing, and it thrills me every single time I hear someone enjoys my books.

But if you do enjoy my books, I encourage you to spread the word about them. To your friends, family, neighbors, strangers on the Amazon forums or Goodreads or Kindleboards and Twitter. That way it’ll make it easier for me to wrote books, that you’ll hopefully enjoy.

Or at the very least, I can afford to give away more stuff!
