all my obsessions are healthy

Sometimes I need to watch a movie with Christian Bale. Usually, I go with American Psycho or The Dark Knight, but sometimes, I want something different. Back a few months ago, when I did not have means to purchase DVDs, I had to rent them when I wanted a change of pace.

I love Reign of Fire. It came out on July 12, 2002, which happened to be my 18th birthday, so it was the ultimate Birthday Movie, and it has Christian Bale and dragons in it. And, I believe, a Black Lab song on the soundtrack. So all in all, for me, it’s pretty special.

Anyway, I went to the video store (of which we have one in town), and I got The Prestige (brilliant and underrated – watch it if you haven’t seen it yet). But I couldn’t find Reign of Fire. This led to frustration on my part.

So I searched all over the story looking for something else to satiate my Christian Bale fix. They had 3:10 to Yuma, but I’d just seen it, and they had Public Enemies (which also came out on my birthday but I didn’t got see it because it looked disappointing). I didn’t want to rent that. I looked all over Little Women or even Newsies. Nope, and nope. I would’ve watched The Machinist again. Even that godawful Terminator: Salvation, but every copy had been rented.

So, here I am, stalking all over the store, determined to find something I wanted to watch with Christian Bale, and working myself into a total frenzy. It’s at that point, when I realize I’m being totally crazy, whilst staring at a cover of Red Dawn, I said aloud, “All my obsessions are healthy.” And then I realized someone was standing right next to me.

The moral being – I am in fact a crazy person, and I have made peace with that. And Christian Bale makes a lot of shite movies.

I’m a fellow Bale lover. Did you read the book American Psycho? If not, READ IT! A lot of Bret Easton Ellis books are awesome, out there… but awesome. The movie doesn’t even come close to the book but Christian Bale really rocks Patrick Bateman. Did you know that CB plays Laurie in Little Women?

I agree with the Machinest, the guy is a great character actor despite whatever movie he’s in.

I love Reign of Fire, not only does it have CB but it’s got Gerard Butler in it, too. I still cry when he (GB) bites it [self-sacrificing of course]at the closed door .

Rescue Dawn was entertaining but c’mon, Deter Dangler for a name? Sounds more like he belongs in a porno! Was still good though.

  • Well, you could always watch The Land of Faraway for your Christian Bale needs… XD Who cares that he was like 11??? And played a character named Zumzum?

THE PRESTIGE is my favorite Batman vs. Wolverine, Marvel/DC crossover of all time! LOL

Harsh Times was another S**T movie, but CB was still pretty awesome.

Or a super duper oldie: Empire of the Sun. but he was just a tot.

  • @Joseph The Prestige is totally underrated. And I don’t want to watch The Dark Knight too much and ruin it.

@Stacey I have since seen “Public Enemies.” I liked Christian Bale, and I always enjoy Stephen Dorff. But that was about all. Really, I only liked the one scene where Christian Bale stops people from beating up that chick from La Vie en Rose.

@David What? I haven’t even heard of this!

@Robert They didn’t have Machinest. That was the problem. I would watch it again. And again. I enjoyed it. The only thing I won’t watch is Rescue Dawn because they eat maggots. So.. I’m out on that one.

  • C’mon, no Machinest, Amanda? Could’ve gotten your fix right then and there…

No mention of “Equilibrium” (another shite movie but kinda fun to watch). Though, really, finding that a video store would be a rare event indeed.

  • I also love Reign of Fire! Give Public Enemies a chance sometime, I thought it was pretty good even though I only watched it for Christian Bale and Johnny Depp.

Finished Torn last night- Great book! I had weird dreams about hot green people all night.:)
