My previous excitement over the internet was short-lived, as my internet was out pretty much the entire weekend. I’m starting to think that Charter must have some kind of vendetta against me. But it’s working now, and that’s what counts.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Peter Bjorn & John’s “Gimme Some,” Florence + the Machine “Lungs,” and the Beatles “White Album.” Not sure that that has a ton of relevance, but I like to share what I’m listening to.

Not getting a ton of writing done yet. It’s hard getting comfortable in the new house. I want to write but the space all feels wrong and incomplete. Plus, I’m not sleeping very well. I just toss and turn a lot.

I had this bizarre dream that I cut up my favorite bra because I couldn’t figure out how to take it off. And then I was really sad in the dream, because the bra was ruined, and I tried to put it back together with staples and duct tape.

Nearly every day since we’ve moved has been chilly and rainy, and it’s depressing. I’m really happy that I didn’t run away to Seattle like I had planned when I was eighteen. I don’t think I would’ve liked it very much.

So I don’t have a lot to say today. I will have stuff to say soon. And it will be good stuff.

But now I’m going to escape and try to get some writing done.

  • During times of major transition it’s harder to sleep. Once you get accustomed to your new home it’ll be easier.

    Hi Amanda!

I just want to first congratulate you on your success :). Your hard work has paid off! It’s very inspiring and I know you have inspired many other writers!

I’m publishing my first e-book this month and I’m very excited. I have a question for you! I know you’re super busy, but I’m crossing my fingers maybe you’ll reply!

I do a lot of research-(reading other indie writer’s blogs and so forth) and as I was going through “VictorineWrites” blog, (author of “Not What She Seems”), she featured you way back in June 2010 🙂 Well, that’s not way back, haha, but you know, almost a year ago!

Oh, here’s the link for reference: http://victorinewrites.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2010-06-15T11%3A17%3A00-05%3A00&max-results=7

So, anyway, in this little interview, you currently had 3 books as of June 2010. I’m just curious, did you write the remainder of your books, currently listed on Amazon, during the rest of 2010 when you were writing 8-12 hours a day. I was just wondering! 🙂 I have 5 titles I’m working on releasing this year. I just absolutely love hearing people’s success stories. It’s extremely motivational and inspiring. Because, I am a firm ,FIRM, believer that hard work, plus diligence equals success. That, the plans of the diligent lead to profit. (That’s actually a Proverb!).

Anyway, hope to hear back from you, Amanda. And best wishes in 2011. What an exciting year for you! Congrats on the house, as well 🙂

Dream Interpratation means you feel you lost your support. Kudos to the white album. You have showed me that I can do well with the marketing of my addiction related books. Your strong, I have no doubt you will survive and thrive. But in your next dream just go out and buy a new bra, you got the money now. John Joseph

I hope that you can adjust to your new place soon. I love reading your books. I got them from amazon.com. I am very much excited to read more of your work.

I would like to let you know that you are my inspiration in writing my first book. It’s a story about my grandma’s grandpa who escaped the Iranuns – who were the most brutal sea raiders of the Philippines in the 17th century.

He was enslaved in the southern seas of the Philippines as a pearl diver.

The pearls were traded to the goods of the Chinese and the British traders during that time.

This story has been haunting me since I was in High School. I just didn’t have the guts to write it. But your success has given me the guts!

    Congratulations to all the success!

I love dreams, Amanda. It sounds like you already interpreted the dream. You cut out your ‘support’ and your trying to put it back together in the new house but it’s ruined.

I hope you place familiar items from your old writing space into the new comfort zone.

Dreams provide great writing material. I wrote my first novella from one.

Congrats on all the success. You provided inspiration for many of us fledglings.

    Blessings, C.S.Poulsen

Settling in to a new space can be difficult. Hopefully you find your zone soon. When I moved last year, I found that burning my favorite scent of incense or a candle helped me get comfortable.

  • The honeymoon on our new place is starting to wear off now for us, too . . . it’s great, huge steps above the craphole we used to live in, but there’s definitely still room for some mega-improvements.

And it doesn’t help that we have a psychotic 13 year old girl who lives across the street from us. She’s threatened our kids before, and I’m hoping that she will simmer down now that we had a conversation with her alcoholic father.

But I just have to picture where we used to live, and it all doesn’t seem so bad. One More Day took off well after I published it in February, and my new release, a collection of horrific short stories and novellas called Three Before Dark already had its first sale within 24 hours of its release. Things are, overall, moving upward and onward, to greener pastures and all that.

I hope Seattle becomes a more nurturing mother to you guys and that you enjoy your new home. And above all else, take heart in your writing.

    Best,

    Nick

  • This is why your books are so popular: Your willingness to be open and vulnerable. It’s inviting and refreshing. Good luck with the new house.

  • Sometimes ya just gotta take a break. Writing is a strange creature – it comes from a special place and when your surroundings are disrupted or changed, it may affect your rhythm. So if you need to break to get settled, take all the time you need. I do.
